22-05-2023Isola Comacina: the only island of Lake Como
Part of the Municipality of Ossuccio, Isola Comacina is an archaeological and natural park. It is a cultural complex made up of the island and the Antiquarium Archaeological Museum located on the mainland in Ossuccio, near the church of S. Maria Maddalena.
Access to the Comacina Island is possible only by lake with a taxi-boat from Ossuccio, or by means of the Lake Como Navigation which allows you to disembark directly on the island. To consult the timetables of the Lake Como Navigation, click here!
The island tour can be done on foot in about two hours, so we recommend the use of comfortable shoes, suitable for a hiking trail. There are several paths surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation that allows you to admire the remains of Roman buildings, early Christian remains and the remains of Romanesque churches. Indeed, on the Isola Comacina you can see the remains of the churches of Santa Maria del Portico (12th century) and that of San Pietro in Castello (12th century).
A trip not to be missed!
