The Lucias' Race

The Lucias' Race

The Lucie, (or Larian gondolas), are small flat-bottomed boats with two oars rowing. Since 1947 they have been the queens of the Palio Remiero del Lario, a race that attracts many tourists to the shores of Lake Como.

Played continuously from the end of the 1940s until 1972, the Palio delle Lucie came back to life in 1988 in Domaso, a municipality that won the traditional silk banner offered as a prize and was kept and displayed in the halls of the Town Hall. From June to the end of August, therefore, the whole lake and especially the Alto Lario area become the focal point of sport and tradition every weekend in different stages.

Over the years, the route has changed in length and phases, but the competitive spirit and sense of challenge between the different crews, male and female, dressed in the shirts and colors of the village to which they belong, have remained unchanged.

Also in 2021, during the 58th edition of the Palio del Lario, the rowers of Domaso brought the banner back to the Municipality after a fought Palio and a great duel with the other crews, a victory that enriched the already important palmares of the small municipality of the Alto Lario and who literally sent the fans into ecstasy!
Who will be this year's winner? Bets are open!

A challenger, both for the participants and for the spectators who enthusiastically watch the race: an opportunity to have fun in a combination of modernity and tradition.
